My completed mural at The Hive in Kirkcaldy, Fife’s first LGBT+ Community Centre - I was the selected artist to complete two large murals within the Hub.

My name is…

…Megan Bett and I am a young artist local to Fife, Scotland.  I paint a vast range of styles, but I am probably most known for my animal work and child-like imagery with a very vibrant and colourful take on things. I can’t remember a time when I wasn’t passionate about art, although I do have a very vivid memory of becoming certain, that art would be a massive part of my life.

When I was around 10, I remember looking through my mother’s portfolio from when she studied art and design at college.  I was fascinated by all the different ideas, colours and drawing techniques she used in her work. From that moment on I wanted to be just like my mum, very creative and talented.

It’s fair to say I have definitely lived up to that dream. I spend any spare time I have painting, to the point I don’t own any items of clothing that don’t have their own unique splatter of paint on them and my home is covered in random bits of colour. I often wonder why I get so many funny looks from people when I’m out and about too, until I get home and look in the mirror and realise I have paint all splatters all over my hair and smudges of ink on my face. On a regular basis I also mix up my cup of coffee and mug of painting water by dipping my brush in my coffee, the worst bit though is drinking the paint water instead of my coffee.

I have come to realise this is all part of being an artist and I love it. I find so much pleasure in being able to create something that people want to spend their hard earned money on. I was born to be an artist.  Art is my dream.
